We at Husqvarna Group aim to transform our professional robotic mowing platform into a credible, science-based “biodiversity coach” for golf courses and managed greenspaces. We want to bridge the gap between “green-looking” intentions and measurable ecological results by 2030, moving beyond costly, one-off expert consultancies toward a scalable, mid-cost over time monitoring and guidance solution.
Opportunity overview
Biodiversity on golf courses is complex and slow-changing, making it difficult for managers to track progress or justify investments to regulators and communities. While our robotic mowers provide unparalleled field presence and precise positioning, their potential as a distributed “biodiversity observatory” remains untapped. We are looking for startups and scale-ups with capabilities in agronomy/ecology, computer vision and sensing, software and data products, and privacy-aware data handling that can pilot concrete use cases such as habitat mapping, invasive species detection, biodiversity scoring in managed landscapes, wildlife-friendly mowing strategies, or (where compliant) acoustic biodiversity monitoring. Solutions should be applicable first to golf courses, but ideally extendable to parks, municipal greenspaces, sports facilities, and large campuses.
Your Opportunity with Husqvarna
By partnering with us, you can apply your technology through a global leader in forest and park products. With partnering we can implement your solution on a mature robotics lawnmover platform with presence and existing clients all around the globe. Through the Combient Foundry venture-client model, selected partners will co-develop and pilot biodiversity applications together with Husqvarna’s robotics and business teams, with access to domain experts, test sites, and potential integration into our product and digital ecosystem. If pilots demonstrate measurable biodiversity and customer value, we see a path towards productisation and scale—ranging from integrated features to joint offerings and long-term commercial relationships where your solution becomes part of how professional users manage and document biodiversity on their sites.
Examples we're looking for
On-robot sensing and detection
Leverage on-robot sensing (e.g. cameras and other sensors) and positioning to detect, classify, or quantify biodiversity-relevant signals (flora, fauna, habitat features) in real operating conditions.
External data integration
Leverage other data sources like satellite imagining or other existing sensor infrastructure to justify actionable insights.
Actionable outputs for professionals
Convert raw observations into practical outputs for professionals: habitat maps, biodiversity indicators, dashboards, alerts, task lists, and exportable reports or APIs that support frameworks such as certification schemes and internal sustainability reporting.
Workflow integration
Fit seamlessly into professional workflows on golf courses and similar environments, including support for greenkeeper and grounds team routines, seasonal planning, and communication with stakeholders.
Scalable beyond golf courses
Can be piloted on golf courses first, with a clear roadmap towards broader use in public parks, sports facilities, and large commercial or campus areas, including margins, roughs, and adjacent habitats.
Bonus: Framework-aligned reporting
Generate visualizations and reports aligned with global frameworks (e.g., GEO certification, EU Biodiversity Strategy) that are easy for stakeholders and players to understand.
