ReSpare by Husqvarna Group: Impactful marketplace for spare parts
At Husqvarna Group, equipment is built to last. Whether in the hands of a professional forester or a passionate gardener, these machines are long-term investments, where downtime can mean lost opportunities.
Too often, a perfectly capable machine risks retirement because one critical part is unavailable, either no longer produced or difficult to source in a given region.
That is where ReSpare comes in.
A vision for circularity meets startup agility
In 2021, Combient Foundry enabled Husqvarna Group to team up with Sharetribe, a startup specializing in scalable marketplace technology. What began as an exploration of service delivery and customer engagement quickly evolved into something more powerful: a way to keep machines running longer by turning unused parts into valuable resources.
Across Husqvarna’s vast dealer network, a clear pattern emerged. Many dealers had shelves of spare parts, some new and some gently used, all gathering dust. At the same time, other dealers were scrambling to find those exact components to complete repairs and satisfy customers.
ReSpare was created to solve this disconnect. It is a digital marketplace where dealers can buy and sell spare parts between themselves with just a few clicks.
From pilot to proof: circular innovation in action
Launched in 2022 in South Africa, Poland, and Brazil, ReSpare quickly proved its value. Built rapidly on Sharetribe’s platform, the pilot enabled dealers to exchange parts and even entire machines, reducing waste and unlocking value in idle inventory.
“Through ReSpare, we’ve empowered our dealer network to unlock new value from existing inventory while providing customers with smarter, more sustainable ways to keep their equipment running year after year” — Nikos Varotsis, Director Strategy & Business Development, Emerging Markets at Husqvarna Group
By 2025, Husqvarna aims to scale ReSpare to support 5,000 dealers and enable 100,000 transactions annually. In South Africa alone, the platform is already supporting the resale of used machines, demonstrating how circularity can extend beyond parts to entire products.
The power of ecosystem partnerships
The journey began with Husqvarna Group’s long-term collaboration with Combient Foundry, which has been driving innovation since 2019. In 2021, Husqvarna Group launched two startup challenges: one focused on zero-administration service delivery, and the other on next-level customer engagement. It was through this process that the ReSpare opportunity emerged.
“ReSpare is a perfect example of how large organizations can harness the agility of modern SaaS platforms to rapidly pilot and scale new business models, without the traditional barriers” — Juho Makkonen, CEO & Co-founder, Sharetribe
By connecting with startup technology and embracing a test-and-learn mindset, Husqvarna Group created a platform that is not just solving logistical headaches, it is redefining what sustainability looks like in the equipment industry.
Circular win for all
With ReSpare, dealers reduce waste, monetize surplus, and serve customers faster. End-users enjoy more reliable, affordable services. And Husqvarna Group moves closer to its sustainability goals, estimating that the life of a chainsaw can be extended by 10–20%, while also reducing material use per working hour.
ReSpare is more than a marketplace: it’s a mindset shift.
It shows that circular thinking, digital tools, and cross-industry collaboration can spark real change.
Looking ahead, ReSpare will continue to expand while Husqvarna Group and Combient Foundry prepare to launch the next cohort of business innovation opportunities in September 2025.
