Opportunity

Husqvarna Group is dedicated to reducing CO2 emissions with science-based goals. In the pursuit of a more sustainable future for handheld devices, we are now seeking eco-friendly fuels for combustion-driven engines. Our focus encompasses both synthetic and biofuels, some initially developed for sectors like aviation but adaptable for Husqvarna Group’s purposes.

Opportunity overview

Husqvarna Group is dedicated to reducing CO2 emissions with science-based goals. While our journey towards electrification is underway, there are scenarios, particularly in professional settings, where gas-powered tools continue to offer unparalleled convenience. The current energy density of lithium-ion batteries, both in terms of weight and volume, falls short for prolonged professional use. For instance, professionals in the forest industry often traverse extensive distances on foot, spending entire days in forests. In such contexts, lighter equipment is paramount. Gasoline-powered chain saws, with a 5-liter canister, provide the necessary stamina for a full day’s work without requiring additional supplies.

In the pursuit of sustainable alternatives, we are seeking eco-friendly fuels for combustion-driven engines. Our focus encompasses both synthetic and biofuels, some initially developed for sectors like aviation but adaptable for Husqvarna Group’s purposes. The primary criterion for these fuels is being alkylate-based, especially when used extensively in handheld devices by professionals, ensuring minimal sulfur and benzene content and safe use. Depending on collaboration models, we are eager to partner with manufacturers to innovate and distribute these greener fuel options through Husqvarna Group’s global network, amplifying their environmental impact.

Examples we're looking for

Synthetic fuels

E-fuels are synthetic or man-made fuels that can replace traditional fossil fuels in existing engines. They are produced by capturing CO2 from the air, combining it with hydrogen from water, and converting it into liquid fuel.

Alkylate fuels

Alkylate fuels prioritize user safety by maintaining low levels of harmful impurities like sulfur and benzene. Produced through specific refining processes, they result in cleaner-burning fuels suitable for sensitive applications.

Biofuels

Biofuels are derived from organic materials like plants, algae, or organic waste. They offer a renewable and sustainable alternative to conventional fuels, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
