Opportunity

Scania has a key strategic focus on heavy vehicle electrification. Driven by the commitment to drive the shift towards a more sustainable transport system, Scania is looking to continuously enhance the performance of its premium batteries and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) products. We are now seeking solutions that can further improve the performance and lifetime of batteries in Scania electric vehicles.

Opportunity overview

Electrified heavy transport imposes distinct requirements on battery system performance compared to passenger vehicles, including energy output, usage patterns, and charging demands. Within Scania electric vehicles, modular battery systems integrate the world’s most environmentally friendly battery cells with packs and modules meticulously crafted for heavy vehicle conditions. These solutions are designed to meet stringent energy and performance criteria, catering to high annual mileage and extended lifespan requirements. Moreover, Scania aspires to establish closed-loop systems for batteries, fostering partnerships and pilot initiatives aimed at extending battery lifecycles before recycling at end-of-life. Embracing a circular battery strategy, Scania prioritizes the potential for battery reuse, repurposing, and recycling.

To address the evolving market demands and accelerate the adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) in the heavy transport sector, we are now seeking innovative solutions and technologies that can further improve the performance and lifetime of heavy vehicle battery systems. We primarily look for novel non-software technologies that meet stringent performance, sustainability, and safety standards. We are interested in solutions that encompass performance enhancements at both battery pack and module levels, as well as technologies that support the monitoring and improvement of overall battery usage and lifecycle.

Examples we're looking for

Battery deterioration prevention

We seek innovative solutions to optimize battery lifetimes for heavy transport requirements, including charging and battery performance management.

Battery cooling technologies

In pursuit of enhanced battery performance, we are interested in solutions that address the temperature fluctuations in the batteries. The technology should effectively mitigate temporary temperature peaks and analyze the cell-to-cell heat flow.

Sensing and monitoring technologies

To enable robust monitoring and performance analysis of electric vehicle batteries, we are exploring sensing and monitoring technologies tailored to heavy transport needs.

Recycling, dismounting, and reusing technologies

We are interested in solutions that improve the recyclability, dismounting, or reusability of battery systems, aiming to increase the utilization and longevity of batteries and their parts.
