Within our partnership framework, TRATON Group—consisting of the leading commercial vehicle brands Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus—is seeking software partners to unlock and monetize the available energy flexibility of its commercial BEV fleets. The envisioned solution will aggregate pooled fleet battery capacity and automate bidding across electricity markets, enabling fleet customers to unlock new revenue streams, accelerate vehicle ROI, and support regional grid stability.
Opportunity Overview
Transitioning to heavy-duty commercial battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represents a major step forward for sustainable transport, but the significant upfront investments required for vehicles and charging infrastructure remain a financial hurdle for many fleet operators. TRATON Group is uniquely positioned to address this obstacle. By calculating and managing energy flexibility profiles across multiple customer fleets, TRATON can unlock an entirely new, aggregated revenue stream for its fleet and logistics customers. This directly improves their return on investment, optimizes their electricity efficiency for greener logistics, and helps balance the regional power grid, driving widespread BEV adoption. To capture this emerging market and stay ahead of the competition, we are looking to partner with cutting-edge energy tech startups to establish a scalable energy flexibility monetization ecosystem.
Summary of the Requested Solution
We envision a system that connects to a fleet operator’s charging and transport management software to optimize truck schedules and charging around real operational needs, including arrival/departure times and target battery levels. By pooling this data across the combined TRATON fleets, TRATON can calculate the overall energy flexibility its electric trucks can offer back to the grid. TRATON aims to serve as the central fleet orchestration and optimization layer—managing vehicle telematics, fleet operations, depot charging needs, and energy flexibility availability—while collaborating with partners to handle the market side: providing real-time market price and demand signals, managing the commercial flexibility pool, bidding into energy markets, settling with the grid.
The ideal partners hold or can facilitate licensed market access (e.g., BRP/BSP), multi-fleet pooling capabilities, and predictive local grid or site data to feed TRATON’s planning engines. We remain open to a single vertically integrated partner or an ecosystem of specialized providers. Selected partners should connect through abstract APIs that preserve TRATON’s central fleet orchestration, with commercial vehicle, transport logistics, routing, or TMS experience considered a plus. The solution will be piloted first in selected markets in Europe.
Your Opportunity with TRATON Group
Partnering with TRATON Group provides a unique opportunity to scale your technology alongside a global leader in sustainable transport with a footprint of 1.15 million connected vehicles in active operation—and a rapidly growing fleet of heavy-duty electric vehicles. This initiative builds directly upon the pioneering bidirectional and megawatt V2G charging milestones already demonstrated by Scania, as well as MAN Truck & Bus within the SPIRIT-E consortium. A selected pilot partner will receive dedicated financial and technical support to advance through a structured validation process, moving from initial software simulations towards live customer depot deployments alongside TRATON R&D experts and decision-makers. Ultimately, this provides an opportunity to validate your solution’s scaling potential across TRATON’s global vehicle brands. your solution’s scaling potential across TRATON’s global vehicle brands.
Examples we're looking for
Market Aggregation & Grid Access
Aggregators or energy providers capable of pooling flexible multi-megawatt blocks and directly interfacing with wholesale, balancing, or ancillary markets. We are interested in solutions capable of absorbing financial imbalance and deviation risks, featuring flexible API layers that can ingest fleet-level energy flexibility profiles from TRATON.
Algorithmic Energy Trading
Advanced trading software that can ingest macro market variables, accurately forecast price volatility, and automate short-term electricity market bidding strategies. We seek solutions that can function as a financial optimization layer, interfacing cleanly with TRATON’s central fleet orchestration and optimization layer.
Smart Charging Management (CMS/EMS)
Hardware-agnostic, modular software platforms optimized for commercial depots, capable of ingesting, translating, and executing charging schedules provided by TRATON’s fleet orchestration system. We seek integrated site management capabilities that continuously feed back grid connection data, site constraints, and local energy asset statuses to enable precise local control while maximizing fleet-wide flexibility orchestration. Additionally, capabilities to handle or incorporate mission operational data, such as routing schedules and Transport Management System (TMS) data, are considered a valuable benefit.
