We are now seeking innovative energy storage solutions to optimize the cost-effectiveness and energy performance of elevator operations. Opportunity overview

Currently, small batteries (~100 Wh) are the norm in elevator systems for backup power. These batteries serve a crucial role in potential power failures, providing the necessary short-term electricity for critical elevator operations. However, as backup power for only specific use cases, they do not enable intelligent and effective power management between the electricity network and the elevator.

We are now seeking cost-effective energy storage solutions with advanced power management capabilities, adaptable to different building types and elevator systems. The aim is to create a globally scalable, interoperable energy storage and management system that integrates seamlessly with current elevator systems and effectively optimizes elevator energy performance. In addition to intelligent power management, having a stable power source can help to reduce operational disturbances, leading overall to increased safety and reliability.

The envisioned solution should be capable of recovering and storing the regenerated energy from the elevator, providing a highly reliable backup power supply in case of a power failure. In addition, it should include intelligent power management capabilities to shift consumption from high CO2 intensity hours to low CO2 intensity hours and from high market prices to low market price times. Furthermore, the system could manage when, where, and how much energy must be transferred between the network and the elevator. This can enable building managers to more intelligently manage the power consumption of their elevators.

Examples we're looking for

Recovery of regenerative energy

The solution should effectively recover and store regenerative energy generated by the elevator. Depending on the size of the elevator system, the capacity of the energy storage system should be scalable in the multi-kWh range. The minimum power capacity of the system should match the nominal power of the elevator to ensure seamless charge and discharge operations.

Backup power supply

To increase the reliability and safety of the elevator system, the solution should be able to handle potential disturbances in the power supply and electricity network whenever they occur, ensuring continuous power delivery to the elevator system without interruptions.

Intelligent power management

To further enhance the energy and cost-efficiency of the elevator system, the ideal solution incorporates intelligent energy management capabilities. It should dynamically manage the direction of energy flow between the network and elevator based on peak power limit, energy market prices, and CO2 emissions. This enables the elevator to have a more effective and sustainable energy performance.
