The Husqvarna Automower® is a state-of-the-art robotic lawn mower designed to maintain your lawn effortlessly, ensuring a consistently manicured appearance. Operating autonomously, it trims the grass regularly, promoting a healthier and more attractive lawn. We are exploring opportunities beyond mowing, to create a connected garden ecosystem that enhances residential garden care. The focus is on creating a system that integrates advanced sensing hardware technologies to create smarter, data-driven systems that deliver a superior user experience and healthy outdoor gardens and yards.
Opportunity overview
We seek partnerships with startups and technology providers capable of delivering market-ready solutions or innovations with a clear path to commercialization. Key areas of interest include advanced sensors, such as moisture sensors for irrigation systems, that provide actionable insights to optimize garden health and maintenance. These solutions are aimed specifically at residential consumers, ruling out large-scale agricultural applications, and must be cost-effective, practical, and tailored to meet the needs of everyday garden owners.
The ideal partners can integrate their technologies seamlessly into existing garden systems, offering tools that empower consumers to make informed decisions and enhance the value of their outdoor spaces.
This initiative presents an opportunity to bring cutting-edge technology to residential gardens, fostering a connected, sustainable, and intelligent approach to garden care.
Requirements for startups submitting to this opportunity
- Consumer focus: Solutions should be tailored for private consumers, specifically targeting residential gardens rather than large-scale agricultural applications
- TRL and company size: Hardware solutions should be either market-ready or have a realistic path to commercialization within a reasonable timeframe
- Cost-effectiveness: Solutions should be affordable for consumers, ideally with sensors priced below 100 euros each
Your insights and subject-matter expertise are highly valued, and we encourage bold proposals and fresh insights, rather than sales pitches on familiar topics and a “we can do everything” -kind of attitude. Please be realistic about your key capabilities and what makes you unique, and share what you can and can’t do. Please note that the below are examples and one solution does not have to have all capabilities, we are expecting you to propose new related ideas too.
Examples we're looking for
Advanced sensing technologies
Hardware-based tools to provide real-time data about soil health (nutrition, diseases, pests) and environmental conditions like weather for dream yard and garden.
Robotics and automation
Small garden robots that extend beyond mowing functionality, such as autonomous planting, weeding, or pruning systems – what would you wish to see in your garden?
Data analytics and integration
Connecting data from various sources to create a smart system like AI-driven garden management systems or dashboards that monitor vegetation health, weather patterns, and irrigation schedules.
